Boaters on Lake Norman got a pleasant surprise Saturday morning after being flagged down by the Iredell County Sheriff Lake Patrol.

Looks of concern turned into laughs and smiles after Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen introduced himself on the sheriff's boat between the Pinnacle Point access and the N.C. 150 bridge. The event was all in the name of promoting boater safety via Academy Sports + Outdoors and Onyx Outdoor gear.

The six groups of boaters – mostly families on pontoon boats – took pictures with the three-time Pro Bowl honoree Olsen and were given safety gear and gift cards from the companies.
