Friends and family on Monday remembered Brenda Jackson, Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s mother, who died April 22.

“I’m glad her suffering has ended and she can be at peace,” Earnhardt said on Twitter. “She would be in tears of happiness over the words of support and remembrance she’s been shown. ... Our family appreciates it as well. She will live in our hearts forever.”

Jackson, 64, whose first husband was Dale Earnhardt, had worked for Earnhardt Jr.’s JR Motorsports since 2004.

“Known for her wit, charisma and unparalleled ability to cut to the heart of any matter, Jackson became an instant favorite to her friends and colleagues at JR Motorsports,” the company said in a statement.

Jackson also was preceded in death by her sister, Sandra Gee.

Survivors include her husband, William M. Jackson Jr.; children, Earnhardt Jr. and wife, Amy, and Kelley Earnhardt Miller and husband, L.W.; stepdaughter, Meredith Davis and husband, Jonathan; brothers, Robert Gee and wife, Beverly, and Jimmy Gee; and six grandchildren.

Services were held Monday at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Piedmont Animal Rescue, 228 E. Waterlynn Road, Mooresville, NC 28117 or Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
