MOORESVILLE – Grey skies and a threat of rain couldn’t keep the dachshunds away from the annual Downtown Mooresville Wiener Race Saturday, Oct. 7. Dachshunds young and old put their best paws forward to compete in races or vie for the titles of “Cutest” or “Best Dressed.” Some 500 residents joined in to watch the event. In total, 47 dachshunds raced for bragging rights, many convening from surrounding areas, including Mooresville, Mint Hill, Greensboro, Hickory and as far away as Fredericksburg, Va., and Alpharetta, Ga., event organizer Tom Kilroy said.
In the puppy division, Lulu (owners: Wes and Olivia Murdock) took the title for both heat winner as well as trophy winner.
The junior division had four heat winners, Finn (owner: Amanda Raper), Daisy, (owner: Paige Roudebush), Bella (owner: Keith Koldsbaek) and Kaiser (owners: Pixie and Dale Gentle), who went on to become the trophy winner.
The adult division had two heat winners, Schnitzel (owners: Mike and Susanne Todd) and Jasper Doodle (owner: Natalie Kelly) who went on to win the trophy.
The senior division had two heat winners, Ginger Ale (owner: Catherine Owens) and Tucker (owners: Michelle and Danny Hall), who went on to become the trophy winner.
