Boxed beef cutout values this afternoon were sharply higher on good demand and moderate offerings, the USDA said.

  • Choice was up $5.98 to $232.34/cwt.
  • Select rose $5.34 to $205.92.

In negotiated cash sales in Nebraska, the USDA reported 217 head sold live for $105.50-106, and 747 head sold dressed for $170. In Iowa-Minnesota, there were 2,389 head sold live for $105-107, and 1,861 head sold dressed for $169-172.

Boxed beef cut-out values continued to be on the upswing. “Boxed-beef cut-out values at mid-session came in at $231.41, up $5.05 on the day and up from $216.49 last week,” the Hightower Report said.

“Slaughter so far this week is 347,000 head from 355,000 last week after three days which is down an average of 2,666 head per day from last week even through traders were fearful that other plants could not make up for the 6,000 head per day loss of the closed plant in Kansas,” the Hightower Report said.
