CMPD reverses cause of death in May stabbing 


CHARLOTTE – The May death of a 65-year-old northwest Charlotte man has been deemed a suicide, authorities say.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officers responded to an attempted suicide call for service May 15 at a residence in the 8700 block of Viceregal Court in the Keeneland/Claiborne Woods neighborhood. Upon arrival, CMPD said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.   

According to the police, the initial investigation revealed the man was murdered. It was thought the victim was stabbed multiple times during an assault.

As a result of the continued investigation with the Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner’s Office, CMPD said Monday the victim’s injuries were concluded to be self-inflicted. 

Anyone with information is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a CMPD Homicide Unit detective. Det. Tisdale is the lead detective assigned to the case.
