Betty Sue Salyers Weddington

MAIDEN – Betty Sue Salyers Weddington, 84, of Maiden died Feb. 9, 2022.

She was born Sept. 1, 1937, in Russell County, Va., to the late Henry and Lillian Jacobs Salyers. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Alexander Weddington; daughter, Melinda K. Williams; five brothers; and five sisters.

Survivors include her sons, Rick Williams and wife, Kristina, and Christopher Williams and wife, Charlotte; daughter, Darlene Brown and husband, Greg; sister, Kathleen Cordle; stepdaughters:  Sharon Mitchell and husband, Richard, Renee McConnehey, Robin Tittelbach, and Chrystal Weddington; 19 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services were held Feb. 14 at Mt. Ruhama Baptist Church in Maiden.

Memorials may be made to Lion’s Club or Mt. Ruhama Baptist Church.



Patricia Keever Houser

IRON STATION – Patricia Keever Houser, 75, of Iron Station died Feb. 6, 2022.

She was born June 8, 1946, in Lincoln County, to the late John Franklin Keever and Bessie Johnson Keever. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers Bill Keever, Carroll Keever, and David Keever; and sisters Alma Robinson, Natha Lee Meeks, and Betty Brandenburg.

She is survived by her husband, Jim Houser; son, Jamie Houser; daughter, Susan Houser; brothers Larry Keever and wife, Ann, and Jerry Keever; and one grandchild. 

Services were held Feb. 10 at Warlick Funeral Home.

Michael Allen Adams

MAIDEN – Michael Allen Adams, 59, of Maiden died Feb. 3, 2022.

He was born April 6, 1962, in Catawba County to the late Lester Hubert Adams and Zella Phillips Schronce.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Lester Hubert Adams Jr.; and extended family, Roy and Margaret Rudisill.

Survivors include sisters, Pansy Warsham, Donna Hoyle and husband, Carroll, Patricia Green and husband, Billy; and extended family, Junior Rudisill, Lori Rudisill, and Lisa Rudisill.

Services were held Feb. 12 at Bennett Funeral Service.

Mary Katherine Higdon

DENVER – Mary Katherine Higdon, 75, of Denver died Jan. 27, 2022. 

She was born Sept. 21,1946, in Swain County to the late Ted and Vesta Queen Cochran.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Ed, and Joe; and sister, Shirley.

She is survived by her children, Tim Higdon and wife, Stephanie, and Brenda Higdon and husband, Mark Staton; brother, Harold Cochran and wife, Diane; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Private services will be held.
