Shirley Ann Whisnant

STANLEY – Shirley Spurlin Whisnant, 86, of Denver died Dec. 20, 2022.

She was born Nov. 3, 1936, in Rutherford County, to the late Bill and Iris Spurlin. 

She owned and managed Whisnant Displays (Mobilite Exhibit Systems).

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Whisnant Jr.; and brother, Nelson Spurlin. 

She is survived by her daughter, Robin Forester and husband, Robert; son, Dana Whisnant; daughter, Dawn Simms; grandchildren, Brad, Clay, Nick, Missy, David and Blake; and great-grandchildren, McKenna, Jaden, Genevieve, Alaina, Teagan, and Lucas.

Terry Childress

DENVER – Terry Joe Childress, 88, of Denver died Dec. 17, 2022.

He was born July 14, 1934, in West Virginia, to the late Gladys and Ted Childress.

He was a welder, electrician, carpenter, EMT, mechanic and pilot/flight instructor serving as Captain of the Mercer County Civil Air Patrol.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lois; brother, Jimmy; sister, Brenda; and his second wife, Geraldine.  

Survivors include his daughter, Terri Lynn and husband, Allen Hoffer; grandson, Mike and wife, Andrea; granddaughter, Amara; stepchildren, Bill, John, David and Kathy; and several step-grandchildren.

Services will be announced at a later date.

Gloria Jean Ramquist

IRON STATION – Gloria Jean Farrow Ramquist, 68, of Iron Station died Dec. 16, 2022.

She was born January 12, 1954, in Mauldin, S.C., to Virginia Thompson Jordan and the late David Clifton Farrow.

In addition to her mother, Gloria is survived by her husband, Frederick Carl Ramquist Jr.; son, Matthew Ramquist; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Ramquist Chagnon and Matthew; grandchildren, Amelia and Sonja; brother and sister-in-law, David and Barbara Farrow; and nieces, Molly and Hannah.

A service will be held at Lake Norman Lutheran Church of Denver at a future date.
