• Bailey Middle – The eighth-grade band performs during a Veterans Day celebration Nov. 7.

• Bradley Middle – Students will soon begin signing up for winter sports. Tryouts will be held Nov. 17-19.

• Community School of Davidson – The lower school holds a Veterans Day ceremony Nov. 7. The eighth grade “Community Builders” Practicum will lead a ceremony at 8:45 a.m. at the K-8 campus to honor those who have served country. Family members who are veterans are invited to attend.

• Cornelius Elementary – Cornelius Elementary is having a Math Fall Frenzy. Students participate in fall/football-related math activities and learning throughout the day. It’s a great way to fall into a lifelong love for math.

• Davidson Elementary – Students showed off entertaining skills during the Davidson’s Got Talent show on Oct. 28.

• Davidson Green School – The school, in partnership with students from Davidson College, inspired their Upper Elementary classes (grades third and fourth) to research the environmental, economic and social implications of using styrofoam. On Nov. 4, students met with Davidson Mayor John Woods to share with him their research and to propose a styrofoam ban in Davidson.

• Grand Oak Elementary – Kelly Lippard was voted as the Hometown Hero for October. Monnett Law firm surprised her with a $250 gift card and Domino’s Pizza threw a party for her class Nov. 3.

• Hopewell High – Dance teacher Lindsay Blackburne directs the second annual performance of “The Nutcracker” at 7 p.m. Nov. 12 and 19. Tickets cost $5. Children 10 and younger get in free.

• Hough High – Margie O’Shea was among six staffers from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools to present at the N.C. Art Education Association on Oct. 24-25 in New Bern, according to Heath Morrison’s Oct. 24 Friday Focus newsletter.

• Huntersville Elementary – The school is collecting yearbook orders through Nov. 21.

• J.V. Washam Elementary – Parents and staff compete in the annual kickball game on Nov. 9.

• Long Creek Elementary – First-graders go on a field trip Nov. 7 to the North Carolina Zoo.

• North Mecklenburg High – The auto tech program hosts the Cars and Cocoa car show 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 8. Admission costs $10 per car. The event includes food, music and a lowered car limbo.

• Lake Norman Christian – Family could get acquainted with each other at the All Star Tailgate Party and Movie Night on Nov. 1. The event featured a campfire, food, games and contests. … The school holds its open house 10 a.m.-noon Nov. 8 for grades K-12.

• Trillium Springs Montessori – The school offers tours to prospective parents at 9 a.m. Nov. 13.

• Woodlawn School – Fourth-grade girls and their mothers welcomed artist Joyce Wynes for a Mother-Daughter Art Empowerment Workshop. Wynes described how her works encourage women to break free of stereotypes and societal expectations. The pairs then created works of art reflecting their shared values.
