Flatbed truck left running at Denver store is stolen

DENVER – A man who left his flatbed truck running while he went into a Denver convenience store Tuesday came back outside to find the vehicle gone, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called at about 2 p.m. to the Quick Trip on N.C. 73, according to a press release. The truck’s owner, Mark Allen Hayes, told officers he was in the store for five to 10 minutes.

The vehicle is a gray 2012 Ford F350 with a flatbed. The truck has a South Dakota license plate numbered 1AW323. The truck was carrying a Lincoln welder and accessories, a toolbox containing assorted tools, a cooler and clothing. The value of the truck and stolen items was estimated at more than $47,000.

Store video shows a van park next to the truck, and a passenger get out and look into the truck. The driver of the van then went inside the store. When he returned, the passenger from the van got into the truck and drove away in an unknown direction.

An alert was issued to surrounding counties.
