MOORESVILLE – Dozens of two-person teams, including a collection of current students, alumni and some parents, pitched in on Saturday morning to help make things just a little better for two local families coping with cancer diagnoses.

Traditionally a Friday afternoon activity, the 2022 “Cornhole For Cancer” benefit at Coach Joe Popp Stadium on the Mooresville High School campus was shifted to Saturday this year to avoid conflicts with school sporting events. Hosted and coordinated by teacher Tim Smith’s Sports & Literature classes at Mooresville, the annual student-driven event began in 2010.

Through T-shirt sales at the school, $10 entry fees for two-person teams and a host of community sponsors, this year’s contest generated $9,500 to be donated to two Mooresville families involved in current battles against cancer.
