Ten new positive COVID-19 tests reported Tuesday puts Iredell County’s total at 200 since the first case was identified March 16, according to health officials.

For the week of May 11-17, the county averaged more than seven new cases a day, Iredell health officials reported Tuesday in their daily update. That topped the previous high of 5.4 one week earlier.

The number of active Iredell cases involving people who are isolated at home has more than doubled since May 1, and now stands at 81. That means confirmed new cases are growing at a much faster rate than the daily number of people newly classified as recovered. A total of 109 people in Iredell who tested positive are now considered recovered, according to the Iredell County Health Department.

There have been six reported deaths in the county related to COVID-19.

County health officials have said there has been an increase in testing locally, which could at least in part be driving the higher case numbers, as is the case statewide.

The N.C. Department of Health and Human Services on Tuesday reported 677 new cases of COVID-19, up from the 511 reported Monday and bringing the total to 19,844.

At least 585 people in North Carolina were hospitalized with COVID-19 on Tuesday, up from 511 on Monday. There have been 719 related deaths statewide.

A total of 95 of Iredell’s positive cases now have been in Mooresville ZIP codes 28115 (50, with two deaths) and 28117 (45, with one death), according to state figures.
