Iredell reported five COVID-19 deaths Thursday, bringing its total for the month to 41.
That’s as many deaths as the county recorded for all of December, when Iredell established a new monthly high for coronavirus-related deaths.
More than half of Iredell’s 145 COVID-19 deaths have been recorded in December and January.
The Iredell County Health Department reported 203 new COVID-19 cases Thursday, bringing its total to 11,597 since the first positive test March 16.
There have been 2,228 Iredell cases in the first two weeks of January alone, according to the latest figures from the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services. That’s an average of 159 cases per day, up from December’s one-month high of 115 daily.
On Thursday, 63 Iredell residents with COVID-19 were being treated in hospitals, the health department said.
More than 5,000 cases have been reported in Mooresville ZIP codes 28115 and 28117, according to NCDHHS.
N.C. numbers
North Carolina reported 9,853 new COVID-19 cases Thursday, bringing the state’s total to 650,926.
There have been 7,825 coronavirus-related deaths in the state, according to NCDHHS.
North Carolina hit a new high for COVID-19 hospitalizations Wednesday, with 3,990.
A little more than 11 percent of COVID-19 tests in the state were coming back positive, NCDHHS said.
