Learn about police department through Citizens Academy

MOORESVILLE – The application period is winding down for the 2022 Mooresville Police Department Citizens Police Academy.

Through hands-on scenarios coupled with presentations and demonstrations, participants in the academy get an inside look at the police department, including patrol and traffic operations, investigations, K9s and the department’s Special Response Team.

The academy is not a training program to become police officers; rather, it is designed to give enrollees insight into the range of responsibilities officers have and to raise awareness, understanding and trust between citizens and the department.

The academy is an 11-week program starting March 22. Sessions will be held each Tuesday, 6-9 p.m., with class size limited to 15 participants. Applicants must be at least 18, have no outstanding warrants, pending criminal charges or felony convictions.

Academy applications, due March 11, are online at mooresvillenc.gov/140/Community-Programs and at Department headquarters, 750 W. Iredell Ave.

For more information or questions about the program, call 704-664-3311.
