Lincoln County names new health director

Lena Jones

LINCOLNTON – The Lincoln County Board of Health has appointed Lena Jones as the new director of the Lincoln County Health Department. The role was vacant after former health director Davin Madden assumed a new role as Lincoln’s Assistant County Manager.

Jones started her career at the county Health Department 19 years ago and has since worked her way up the organization, serving as Child Care Consultant, Community Health Manager/Preparedness Coordinator, Health Operations Manager, Deputy Health Director and Interim Health Director.

Jones earned a bachelor’s degree in Human Food Nutrition and Exercise from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 2002 followed by a master’s degree in Public Administration from UNC Pembroke in 2018.

Her accomplishments include graduating from Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Lincoln (class of 2015), being named Lincoln County Employee of the Year in 2020, and most importantly, raising her two daughters.

Sheldon Lutz, Lincoln County Board of Health Chair, said, “On behalf of the Lincoln County Board of Health, we are delighted for Lena Jones. She brings many years of experience and knowledge to this position. Lena knows Lincoln County and is an asset to our community.”
