Man arrested for drug sales, weapon near Mooresville school

MOORESVILLE – A previously convicted felon was arrested on felony drug and weapon charges Thursday near Mooresville High School.

According to the Mooresville Police Department, the Narcotics Division executed a search warrant at a Cabarrus Avenue residence after an investigation into complaints of illegal drug activity. In addition to the drug sales 0.3 miles away from the school, the suspect reportedly also was frequently in possession of firearms while being a convicted felon.

As a result of the search warrant, detectives seized one pound of marijuana, 30 grams of cocaine, 74 dosages of MDMA (ecstasy), a sawed-off shotgun and a handgun inside the residence, MPD said. Gordon Cortel Serrano, 422 Cabarrus Ave., was charged with the following felonies: trafficking in cocaine, possession with intent to sell and deliver a controlled substance (marijuana) within 1,000 feet of a park, possession with intent to sell and deliver a controlled substance (cocaine) within 1,000 feet of a park, possession with intent to sell and deliver a controlled substance (MDMA) within 1,000 feet of a park, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a weapon of mass destruction.

Serrano also was charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, and was placed in the Iredell County Detention Center under a $280,000 secured bond.
