The mayors of north Mecklenburg’s three communities have endorsed a healthy and health-promoting friendly competition for the first months of 2021 to determine which town is the fittest.

The 2021 Mayors’ Fitness Challenge will encourage area residents to register and represent their towns in a months-long event designed to promote fitness and more-active lifestyles.

The event will run for 12 weeks – Jan. 31 through April 18 – with each town seeking to record the most active minutes as part of the pursuit for the “Fittest Community” title.

Registration opened Jan. 13 at each town’s official Fitness Challenge website – cornelius.org/PARC, townofdavidson.org/dpr and Huntersville.org/2600/parks-recreation – with participants reminded to register in their town.

Recreation departments in each town are encouraging residents to take part in the Fitness Challenge and spread the word about the event to family members, friends and neighbors.

Official kickoff activities for the Mayors’ Fitness Challenge are being planned for Jan. 31, with additional details distributed in the coming weeks.
