MOORESVILLE – Sip it Forward is a popular on-tap blonde ale at the year-old Hoptown Brewery, and also the namesake of a perpetual benefit effort that allowed Hoptown and its customers to generate more than $14,500 for local nonprofits.

From the brewery’s opening day on March 22, 2021, Hoptown owners Scott and Sandy Plemmons instituted the “Sip It Forward” campaign as a way to give back to the community.

With a $1 charitable donation linked to each pint of Sip It Forward purchased, the project allowed customers to direct their $1 token to one of four selected charities – Lake Norman Humane, FeedNC, Fifth Street Ministries or the Martin Truex Jr. Foundation. The campaign also featured the option for direct purchases of tokens, including $10 bags available at the counter, for those interested in giving with or without drinking.

The end result, highlighted with a celebration on the brewery’s one-year anniversary, included check presentations – $5,242 to Lake Norman Humane, $3,238 to FeedNC, $3,211 to Fifth Street Ministries and $2,893 to the Martin Truex Jr. Foundation – representing a Hoptown-driven, customer-supported total donation of $14,584.

Ceremonies marking the end of the first “Sip It Forward” year also served to kick off the next round, with four new charities – Sheldon K9s, Food4days, Dove House and Hope of Mooresville (HOMe) – selected to share donations provided in the 2022 campaign.
