Mooresville obituaries – Week of April 10

Deborah Roxanne Freeman

TROUTMAN  – Deborah Cockrell Freeman, 65, of Troutman, died April 10, 2023.

She was born Dec. 27, 1957, in Iredell County, to the late Bill and Jimmie Campbell Cockrell.

She is survived by her children, Stevie Freeman Jr. and wife, Misty Goodman, and Jessica Freeman; seven grandchildren, Nathaniel Goodman, Serenity, Kahlil and Malachi Freeman, and Isaiah, Jacob and Lillian Gibson; the father of her children, Stevie Freeman; and cousins, Norma Sissy Crider and Dawn “P-nut” Campbell.

Visitation will be on Saturday, April 15, from 11 am to noon, with a service following at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Giles officiating. Burial will follow the service at Glenwood Memorial Park, Mooresville.

Lucille Radford

CHEROKEE – Lucille Walker Radford, 101, of Cherokee and formerly of Mooresville, died April 8, 2023.

She was born Dec. 31, 1921, in Swain County, to the late William McKinley Walker and Amanda Catt Walker. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert William Radford; sisters, Edna Long “Katie”, Inez Seay and Jessie Howard; brothers, George Walker, Jack Walker and Gene Walker; and grandson, Jason W. Radford. 

She is survived by her children, Bill Radford and wife, Marcia, Terry Radford and wife, Paula, Lindsay Radford and wife, Judy, Robin Radford and wife, Donna, and Tiffany Tschudi and husband, Ryan; sisters, Polly Markley, Maxine Lambert and Alyne Dixon; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A service was held April 12 at Bryson City Church of God and a family visitation will be on Sunday, April 16, from 3 to 4 p.m., at Cavin Cook Funeral Home in Mooresville. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 17, at Salisbury National Cemetery.

Ode Ness Jensen 

MOORESVILLE – Ode Ness Jensen, 85, of Mooresville died April 8, 2023.

He was born on Dec.14, 1937, in Hammerfest, Norway, to the late Leif and Marit Ness Jensen. 

He worked for Moran Towing Company of New York where he was the Chief Engineer of Vessels. 

He served in the U.S. Army. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Solveig Fivelstadt and Liv Ness.

He is survived by his wife, Anne Considine Jensen; nieces and nephews, Timothy Considine and wife, Amanda, Devin Considine and wife, Stephanie, Renee Huber and husband, Karl, Kari Stodle and Brian Considine; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

A service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 19, at St. Therese Catholic Church with Father Mark Lawlor officiating. The family will receive friends following the service from 12 to 1 p.m. Burial will follow the service at Salisbury National Cemetery with military honors.

Gary Edward Rost Henry

ULLA – Gary Edward Rost Henry, 53, of Mt. Ulla, died April 7, 2023.

He was born Oct.12, 1969, in Havre-De-Grace, Md., to Carol Magee Henry and Gene Eric Rost. 

He was formerly employed as a crew chief in the racing industry. 

In addition to his mother and father, Jimmy Sims, he is survived by his twin sister, Gretchen Deutsch and husband, Stephen; brother, Gene Eric Rost, Jr. and wife, Stephanie; uncle, Tom Dixon and wife, Mary; nieces, Bethany Vanderschaaf and husband, Andrew and Madison Rost; and numerous cousins around the country. 

A service will be held at a later date.

John David Keller

MOORESVILLE – John “David” Keller, 66, of Mooresville, died April 6, 2023.

He was born Jan. 26, 1957, in Iredell County to the late John Lee Keller and Joyce Brewer Keller.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Randy Keller.

He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Myers Keller; daughter, Debra Gusler, and husband, Tim, and their daughters, Emma and Ava Gusler; daughter, Angela Ramsay, and husband, Josh, and their son, Cash Ramsay; brothers, Donnie, Paul and Jimmy Keller; and sister, Linda Marlow.

A service was held April 10 at Cleveland First Baptist Church.

Ila Faye Ketchie

MOORESVILLE – Ila “Faye” Donaldson Ketchie, 82, of Mooresville, died April 6, 2023.

She was born July 18, 1940, in Mooresville, to the late Ervin “Quitman” and Cora “Rebecca” Gillespie Donaldson.

She worked as a nurse at Dr. Sloan’s office in Mooresville and then at Iredell Memorial Hospital.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Joyce Winders; and brothers, Ervin Donaldson and William Donaldson.

She is survived by her husband, Roger Wayne Ketchie; children, Roger Wayne Ketchie II and wife, Angela, and Ervin “Vincent” Ketchie and wife, Laura; sisters, Lura Dorton and Lavonne Collins; twin brother, Ray Donaldson; grandchildren, Madison Ketchie, Morgan Ketchie and Jesse Ketchie.

A service was held April 11 at Vanderburg Methodist Church.

Cothelia Odessa Overcash

MOORESVILLE – Cothelia Odessa Overcash, 93, of Mooresville, died April 3, 2023.

She was born July 23, 1929, in Lowell, to the late James Thomas Williams and Delia Howard Williams. 

She worked at Draymore curtain manufacturing.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; daughter, Cynthia Fortenberry; and siblings, B.L. Williams, Claude Williams, Sara Robinson, Wynette Robinson, Evelyn Nance, Betty Burton and Barbara Ann Mayberry.

She is survived by her children, Sylvia Nelson and husband, Don, Dennis Overcash and wife, Linda, Jeanette Overcash and husband, Gary Wilson, Wanda Sheets and husband, Richard,l and Allen Overcash and wife, Libby; grandchildren, Mac Nelson, Amber Lipari and John, Lisa Tran and Tuan, Kristi Overcash, Karla Fischer and Jason, Clint Nelson and Diana, Thomas Ritchie, Melissa Cranfill, Craig Overcash and Holly, Brent Sheets and Amanda, April Ritchie and Jason Overcash and Michelle; and many great-grandchildren.

William Frank Gustafson

SHERRILLS FORD – William “Capt. Gus” Frank Gustafson, 80, of Sherrills Ford, died April 2, 2023. 

He was born March 14, 1943, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to the late Harold and Catherine Bushart Gustafson.

He retired from Sears Department Store and then began his own business, “Fishin’ with Gus.”

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Todd Gustafson.

He is survived by his son, Toby Gustafson and wife, Cathy; three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; brother, Ken Gustafson and wife, Trisha; sister-in-law, Carolyn Todd Summerlin and husband, James; brother-in-law, Skip Todd and wife, Jean; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A service will be held Friday, April 14, at 1 p.m. in the Heritage House at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home and Crematory, Mooresville with Pastor Tom McCrea officiating. A visitation will immediately follow the service.
