Pomodoro’s Italian American Cafe has been a restaurant staple in Mooresville since 1991 and in Denver since 2016. With its hearty Italian-American menu and inviting dining spaces, owner Blake Dewey hopes Pomodoro’s will always feel like home to his customers.

Here is what Dewey had to say about the restaurant, though some responses have been edited for length.

Mooresville Citizen: Tell us a bit about the evolution of Pomodoro’s since you bought it in 2007.

Blake Dewey: We always knew that Pomodoro’s could be much more than a simple pizzeria with a few spaghetti dishes.  As the opportunity arose for us to move to the larger Mooresville location next to the movie theater, our goal was to create an Italian-American restaurant that wasn’t so typical around Lake Norman. With a doubling of our previous square footage we were able to design an open, spacious dining experience with a large bar featuring a sizeable, affordable Italian wine list as well as many specialty liquors and cocktails. Aside from our busy dining room, our takeout and catering business has also grown substantially over the years.

With the burgeoning neighborhoods on the west side of Lake Norman, Denver was distinctly an underserved area for dining options. The Pomodoro’s Denver location offers locals a neighborhood Italian restaurant with distinctive design and comfort. We continue to serve a large, made-from-scratch menu featuring delicious sauteed dishes unmatched in the area, as well as pizza and other stone hearth oven items sure to remind anyone from “up North” of home.  We have a large patio for al fresco dining and very comfy wicker chairs that welcome our guests to sit back, relax and have a cocktail or dessert anytime of the day or evening.

MC: What are some of your favorite things about the restaurant?

BD: It might sound corny, but it really is our guests. Restaurant life is challenging, but what makes it all worthwhile is the friendships you develop over the years. We have watched many of our guests’ children become adults and mourned at the passing of their elders. Our guests are our family, and we truly want them to feel they are “coming home” when they dine with us.

MC: What are some of the most popular menu items?

BD: Of course, Chicken Parmesan is an all-time favorite, but we have seen our guests’ tastes expand to try new offerings. Pasta Norcia, a dish made with hot sausage, cream, marinara and walnuts, has become very popular. Our hand-cut veal and marsalas have also increased in popularity over the years.

MC: Beyond food, what does Pomodoro’s offer?

BD: We have always encouraged guests to feel free to come in, sit by the fireplace in Mooresville or on our patio in Denver, to have a cocktail or a craft beer and chat with friends.  Our bars offer a great place to meet new friends in an atmosphere where conversation is more important than the game on TV. We also have various activities from artist-led painting and appetizer classes to wine tastings.

MC: Is there anything else you’d like the Lake Norman community to know about Pomodoro’s?

BD: We want them to know when we say, “We appreciate your dining with us,” we really mean it! We truly can not begin to express how thankful we are for the support of our families, friends, neighbors and guests over the years.
