NOTEBOOK: Hough wrestling trio 5-0 at Lake Norman Duals

MOORESVILLE – Hough wrestlers Brandt Fajerman, Richard Treanor and Dominic Harris each went undefeated in the Lake Norman Duals Dec. 7 at Lake Norman High School.

Treanor, wrestling at 113 pounds after winning the state championship at 106, opened the tournament with a pin of Benedictine College Prep’s (Va.) Jonah Lambert in just 15 seconds. He had pins in three other matches, and an 18-3 tech fall in the other.

Wrestling at 106 pounds, Fajerman pinned three of his opponents, including Hunter Cash of Richmond Hill (Ga.) in 49 seconds. He also recorded a 14-9 major decision.

Harris recorded three pins at 220 pounds, and won via decision twice.

Other top Hough performers were Jun Figueredo, 3-2 at 132 pounds, and Julian Rawlins, 3-2 at 195 pounds.

Hough finished in fifth place in its pool, defeating Benedictine College Prep 60-21 in its lone team victory. The Huskies will compete in the Hilltopper Duals Friday, Dec. 13, against R-S- Central, St. Stephens and West Lincoln.

Treanor will travel to Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, outside Cleveland, to compete in the highly prestigious Walsh Jesuit
Ironman Tournament.

Hopewell sweeps Cary games

CARY – The Hopewell girls basketball team (8-0) won road games in consecutive days against Green Hope and Green Level Dec. 6 and 7.

Against Green Hope Dec. 6, the Titans won 65-56 with a 26-point outing from junior guard Naveah Caldwell. She shot 10-of-17 from the floor and converted on 5-of-7 free throws.

Senior forward Aniya Caldwell scored 10 points and had a game-high 13 rebounds.

The next morning, Hopewell defeated Green Level, a new Cary school, 46-45.

Vikings start season 5-0

HUNTERSVILLE – The North Meck boys defeated Harding University High 87-43 Dec. 6.

The Vikings were led by 17 points from seniors Shamann Artis and Tristan Maxwell, who also picked up five assists.

Sophomore Jeremy Gregory had 15 points and a team-high eight rebounds, and junior Cam Gates scored 14.

North Meck moved to 5-0, and after a home game with West Charlotte, play in the Bojangles’ Bash Saturday, Dec. 14, in Columbia, S.C., against A.C. Flora.

CSD blows past Rams

GASTONIA – The Community School of Davidson boys basketball team used a big third quarter to defeat Highland Tech 65-39 Dec. 5.

The visiting Spartans entered the frame with a 33-26 lead then outscored the Rams 18-3. Three CSD players scored in double-figures: seniors Nick Noble (12 points), August Knox (11) and Aaron Sprauve (11). Senior Emerson Houser had a team-high 10 rebounds. The win was CSD’s third in a row, pushing its record to 3-1.
