MOORESVILLE – At the town board’s planning retreat early this year – during a summation of the long list of in-progress and planned town road, building and amenity projects, a brief reference was made about how the upgrade with potentially the biggest impact on Mooresville, and the one with the single highest price tag, was receiving little attention.
Perhaps that’s because, when finished, most of it will be underground – or that, while vital, it is simply not a glamorous topic – but the wastewater pump station near the halfway point toward completion on Wiggins Road is worth noting as a major infrastructure investment in the town’s future.
The $20.1-million project represents a substantial upgrade in the town’s utility system, designed to increase service capacity and opportunities for economic development in the north and east areas of town.
The project includes installation of about 2.5 miles of 24-inch force-main pipe and nearly 2 miles of gravity sewer line, upgrading and expanding capacity in the town’s waste treatment system.
The pump station is scheduled for completion next spring, with all new lines and connections expected to be finished by the end of next summer.
