Mecklenburg County’s pre-kindergarten program will operate with in-person instruction and reduced class-size when classes begin Sept.1.

MECK Pre-K, a county-funded program offering free pre-kindergarten programs for 4-year-olds, is managed through Smart Start of Mecklenburg County and offers classes at child care centers with licensed teachers.

In response to COVID-19 hardships, this year’s program will operate without income restrictions and be open to all children who live in the county.

Complete information about the program, including the enrollment process, is available at meckprek.org. In addition, two webinars about the program – in English at 6:30 p.m. and in Spanish at 7:30 p.m. – will be held Thursday, Aug. 13, and a drive-through registration event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot of the Child and Family Services building at 601 E. Fifth St. in Charlotte.

Space in MECK Pre-K is limited. In addition to the meckprek website, information about the program is also available by calling 704-943-9585 or by email at info@meckprek.org.
