Sirianni, Stalun, Decker receive top Catawba Shores football honors

With a record-setting season in his first and only year at Community School of Davidson, quarterback A.J. Sirianni was named Offensive Player of the Year in the Catawba Shores 1A/2A. He passed for 3,856 yards and 52 touchdowns, both leading the state, and completed 62 percent of his passes. The senior orchestrated a Spartans offense that averaged 45 points per game and went undefeated in conference play.

The Conference Defensive Player of the year went to Pine Lake Prep linebacker Hudson Stalun. The emotional leader of a unit that yielded just 8 points per game in the regular season, the senior had a league-high 151 tackles, including 18 tackles for loss. In the Pride’s playoff loss to Salisbury, Stalun racked up a career-high 32 tackles in his prep football finale, and set school records for tackles in a season (151), and in a career (398).

Sophomore Kyle Corrigan of Christ the King was named Special Teams Player of the Year. His punts proved critical in the Crusaders’ many low-scoring, one-possession games.

In his first season at Christ the King, Brian Decker was named Coach of the Year. He guided the Crusaders to its first ever winning season and after finishing as the conference’s top 1A seed, the program hosted its first home playoff games.
