DENVER – East Lincoln pitcher Leah Correll gave up just one infield single, and the top-seeded Mustangs got past No. 8 Hibriten 2-1 Tuesday in the third round of the 3A softball playoffs.

Correll did have her fair share of traffic on the basepaths, however. She walked six batters and struck out four, but was otherwise dominant enough to continue East’s undefeated season at 24-0.

Madison Currence hit two singles with an RBI and notched two stolen bases, while Hailey McFadden drove home the other Mustangs run and stole two bases herself.

Hibriten’s Anna Reeves gave up just four hits total.

Blue Devils fall to familiar foe

MOORESVILLE – Mooresville did the unthinkable and scored 2 first-inning runs off of the mighty Kierston Deal, but the 4-seed Blue Devils couldn’t hang on for a 4-2 loss to East Forsyth.

The 5-seeded Eagles, who eliminated Mooresville in the same round a year ago, came back to score 1 in the third and 3 more in the sixth to take the lead against Mooresville’s Campbell Schaen. It was the 23rd straight win for East Forsyth, who took down Lake Norman High the previous round. Deal signed with softball powerhouse University of Oklahoma.

The Blue Devils finished the year 21-6.
