MOORESVILLE – A local high school student received misdemeanor charges for waving an Airsoft gun at a motorist Thursday.
According to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, a young male in a silver Toyota truck waived a gun at someone on N.C. 150 near Mooresville. The suspect truck reportedly appeared to be traveling towards Lake Norman High School, according to a call made to the county’s Emergency Communications Center.
Iredell County Deputy Joshua Kanupp reportedly observed the truck as it pulled onto the Lake Norman campus nearby on Doolie Road. He conducted a traffic stop on the truck, and identified as Ethan Van Goodman, 18, and another male juvenile in the passenger seat.
Kanupp’s investigation determined a road rage incident had occurred between the caller, and the suspect vehicle on N.C. 150. During the incident, Van Goodman, had displayed what appeared to be a firearm to the other driver. The firearm was determined to be an Airsoft pistol that resembled an actual gun.
Van Goodman was taken into custody and charged with misdemeanor possession of a weapon on school property. LNHS administration was made aware of the incident, and told authorities it will be following school policy on disciplinary procedures related to this event.
